I’m Ronald Brown, and I’ve always had one foot in tech and the other in real life. Before starting this blog, I worked for over a decade in the educational technology space first as a trainer, then later as a product advisor for a company that built tools for virtual learning.

Most of my days were spent helping teachers and small schools find solutions that actually made sense for their day-to-day not just what looked good on a pitch deck. That experience taught me how to evaluate products not just for what they promise, but for what they actually deliver.

Why I Started Mwanakin

By the time 2025 rolled around, I was feeling the itch to step away from corporate meetings and reconnect with the hands-on side of things. I’d always been the guy family and friends came to when they needed help picking the right laptop, smart speaker, or even kitchen gadgets.

So I decided to take that everyday experience and turn it into something useful for others. That’s how mwanakin.com was born out of a desire to share honest reviews, personal insights, and straightforward advice on products I’ve actually used or tested myself.

These days, I live in Augusta, Georgia, with my wife and our very opinionated cat, Oliver. We’re not big-city folks, but we love good coffee, long Sunday walks, and the occasional road trip down the coast. When I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me tweaking an old gadget, browsing estate sales for camera gear, or trying to convince myself I don’t need another pair of noise-cancelling headphones.
